❓ Common Questions

Frequently Asked
Questions

Everything you need to know before your first session of Muscle Stiffness. Our experts are always available to help.

The rotator cuff is a group of 4 muscles stabilising the shoulder. Rotator cuff syndrome includes tears, tendinopathy, and impingement of these muscles — the most common cause of shoulder pain in adults.

Most shoulder pain conditions are diagnosed clinically without MRI. MRI is ordered when a significant rotator cuff tear is suspected or when symptoms are not responding to 6–8 weeks of physiotherapy.

Partial thickness tears commonly heal with physiotherapy. Full thickness tears may also respond to conservative treatment, especially in older patients. Surgery is recommended for acute, complete tears in younger active patients.

Simple impingement: 6–8 sessions. Rotator cuff tendinopathy: 10–15 sessions. Post-surgical: 20–30 sessions. We review at 6 sessions and adjust the programme based on your progress.

Shoulder pain at night is common — often from direct pressure on inflamed structures when side-lying. We provide sleep position advice and use modalities targeting the inflammatory component.

Often, yes. The cervical spine can refer pain and restrict shoulder movement. We always assess the cervical and thoracic spine in shoulder pain evaluations.

Shoulder impingement occurs when the tendons of the rotator cuff are compressed between the humerus and the acromion, causing pinching pain with arm elevation. It responds excellently to physiotherapy.

Swimming strokes (especially freestyle and butterfly) can aggravate shoulder impingement. Backstroke and gentle breaststroke are often tolerated. We guide you on safe swimming during rehabilitation.
